Founded in 1972, Valley Ambulance Authority (VAA) became the first municipal ambulance authority in the United States. Today, we proudly provide emergency medical services (EMS) and non-emergency medical transportation to:
- Moon Township
- Coraopolis Borough
- Crescent Township
- Neville Island
- Pittsburgh International Airport
Locally Governed, Professionally Operated
Each participating municipality appoints representatives to the VAA Board of Directors, ensuring responsive leadership and consistent service oversight across our communities.
50+ Clinicians
What began as a volunteer-based operation has evolved into a highly trained, technology-driven EMS system staffed by over 50 clinicians.
Our Team Includes
Paramedics, Emergency Medical Technicians (EMTs), Dispatchers, and Administrative and support staffβall committed to serving our community.
Certified & Trained
All field staff are certified by the Commonwealth of Pennsylvania and complete ongoing, rigorous continuing education to stay on the leading edge of prehospital care.

Our reliable and ready fleet ensures we can respond to any situation, day or night.
ALS Ambulances
Our ambulances are fully equipped ALS units, staffed by certified paramedics and EMTs. Every emergency call receives an Advanced Life Support crew to ensure skilled, immediate care on scene.
Equipment includes cardiac monitors, defibrillators, advanced airway management, IV supplies, and a full complement of emergency medications.

ALS ambulances equipped with advanced life support equipment and staffed by certified paramedics and EMTs.
Every emergency call is staffed by an Advanced Life Support (ALS) crew
Consisting of at least one paramedic and one EMT to ensure skilled, immediate care on scene.
VAA in the Community
Important to Know
VAA does not receive any municipal tax revenue.
We are funded entirely by community subscriptions, insurance reimbursements, and generous donations from individuals and businesses.

Valley Ambulance Authority is a nonprofit municipal authority and an IRS-recognized 501(c)(3) charitable organization.

The Valley Ambulance Authority (VAA) Board of Directors meets on the fourth Thursday of each month at 6:00 PM, except December, when no meeting is held.
